The project’s execution alone presented unique challenges: due to the remote location, some of the materials had to be transported into the mountains by helicopter—an effort that underscores the uniqueness of this construction project.

Between nature and modern architecture

The region around Lacu Roșu and the Bicaz Gorge is among the most impressive landscapes in the Romanian Carpathians. Vast forests, steep cliffs, and winding mountain roads define the scenery. The Bicaz Gorge, in particular, is known for its towering cliffs, which rise several hundred meters along the road. Just a few minutes away lies Lacu Roșu, with its multitude of trails for hikers and nature lovers, suitable for both leisurely strolls and more challenging hikes.

Amid this impressive natural backdrop, two Panorama Cabins on Gyilkos Mountain and Mária Rock blend harmoniously into the surroundings. The modern accommodations, built largely of wood, feature large panoramic windows that offer unobstructed views of the surrounding forests and mountains. In this way, the landscape becomes part of the cabins, creating a special connection between modernity and nature.

To ensure that this construction method remains effective over the long term, Pitzl’s fastening solutions are used to separate the wood from the substrate, thereby ensuring long-term wood protection and the durability of the structure.

Particularly noteworthy are the tranquility and the unique landscape, which make the cabins ideal for relaxing stops along hiking trails. The goal is to make nature tourism—especially hiking and backpacking—more attractive while simultaneously directing visitor flows in a targeted manner.

The panoramic cabins serve both as lookout points and simple accommodations, offering new perspectives on the impressive landscape characterized by steep cliffs and gorges. Despite the construction work, the impact on nature is deliberately kept to a minimum to preserve the character of the protected national park.

The remote location usually requires a longer hike, making the cabins a true insider’s tip for nature and hiking enthusiasts. The project is complemented by new hiking trails, suspension bridges, panoramic platforms, and installed telescopes that enhance the nature experience.
